Tires are crafted with advanced technology and meticulous care to deliver hundreds of thousands of kilometers of reliable service. To ensure maximum safety, performance, and longevity, proper maintenance is essential.
FENIXWAY addresses the following key factors in the care and service of truck and bus tires:
1. Maintain Proper Inflation Pressure
Underinflation is a leading cause of tire failure and can result in cracking, component separation, or “blowouts.” It reduces load capacity, increases sidewall flexing, and raises rolling resistance, leading to excess heat and potential mechanical damage. Conversely, overinflation increases tire stiffness, which can lead to ride deterioration, unwanted vibration, and an increased risk of impact damage.
Maintaining proper inflation pressure is crucial for optimal tire performance, safety, and fuel efficiency. Check tire pressure regularly (at least monthly) with an accurate gauge, ensuring tires are cool at the time of measurement.
Note: Recommended inflation pressure should always be based on the load carried.
2. Maintain Vehicle Suspension, Alignment, Balance, and Rotate Tires Regularly
Rotating tires regularly promotes even tread wear and extends the life of each tire, particularly those that may show signs of irregular or rapid wear. Typical truck tire rotation patterns are shown below.
Generally, steer axle tires are rotated side to side, while drive axle tires are rotated between axles or side to side. If uneven tread wear appears, check for and resolve any issues with alignment, balance, or other mechanical problems before rotating. For wide-base single drive tires, rotation patterns 1 or 3 are suitable. Ensure that inflation pressures are adjusted according to the tires' new positions following the vehicle manufacturer’s guidelines, as outlined on the vehicle tire placard, certification label, or in the service manual.
3. Store Tires Correctly
When not in use, tires should be stored in a cool, dry location away from heat sources and ozone, such as hot pipes or electric motors. Storage surfaces should be clean, free of grease, gasoline, or other substances that could damage the rubber. Tires exposed to these elements are more susceptible to sudden failure.
Stack FENIXWAY tires carefully to avoid safety hazards or damage to the bottom tires. New FENIXWAY tires should not be stacked higher than 3 meters (approximately 10 feet), which accommodates up to eight tires depending on their size.
